 Late August, the United States’ imperial plans in Afghanistan have fallen embarrassingly flat.  And they should have.

They call that place “The Graveyard of Empires” for good reason.

We should have gone in dynamically, executed Bin Laden and gotten out.

But we didn't, and we succumbed to our inevitable fate.

It is disappointing to watch allied Afghanis, so desperate to escape, be left behind.

Their lives would not have been so jeopardized had we not engaged in a twenty year war but alas here we are.

I believe the Taliban to be evil and my position has never been ‘Fuck the Afghan people’ but rather ‘Fuck perpetual, imperial war prodded on by the military industrial complex.’

I hope good humans from the mountains of Afghanistan and across the globe engage this evil and purge it from those mountains but I cannot endorse this perpetual war with the arrogance of trying to kill and idea.

8/7/21 Weekend

Wife is spending a weekend away with her sister so I’ve had the kids to myself.  We had fun today, kids have been great.  Cooked lunch and dinner, kids seemed to enjoy it so that was a win.

However there is a gray cloud that seems to linger of everything these days, dimming the light, squeezing our throats, it is the ever looming spectre of the massive totalitarian medical state.

I fear for what the future holds, I fear we are in the process of creating a caste society a la that District 9 movie. We read history and it tells us that taking these extraordinary measures at the expense of individual liberty always turns out bad, always.

It may happen that I receive my vaccine passport at some point, if I do I’ll burn it.

8/7/21 Delta and Humans

 It is a very interesting time to be alive. I always wanted to live through interesting times and oh, how I have.  I could go backwards through the list of major national and global events I have been contemporary to, but I won't.

Today is the 6th day of August in the year of our Lord 2021.

I think about today.

The Delta variant of COVID 19 is spreading like wildfire it seems.  I do not live in fear of it, but rather in fear of what further actions may be taken against the free peoples of this earth in the name of combating it.

I look about me and see a nation being torn asunder by masters of division and of power and consequently of wealth for whom this pandemic has been the greatest gift ever bestowed upon them.

We have this beautiful thing called history in which I indulge myself often and we know how these things end.  We know what horrors occur when government casts liberty to the wind in response to crisis. People die, a lot of people die. But alas history is doomed to repeat itself

But I also see people, most of them are really good.  I believe in my fellow human.  Some are even my opponents, ideologically and/or otherwise and thats okay.

If we cannot treat people decently and respectfully because they think different than us then I’m not quite sure how we can pretend to be anything other than brute animals of the field.

There is far more good in this world than there is bad.
